Turf Cutting, Obama Presidential Campaign, 2008 + 2012

This is what turf cutting looks like! As an organizer, I worked with Google Maps connected to the Voter Activation Network (VAN) database, geographically selected walkable regions for canvasses, weeded out points like recently visited voters or strategic decisions based on age, theme, etc; organized map data to fit with voter data for volunteer walking packets; sorted data at end of the night and reported it on the phone and online to headquarters; and repeated the process every afternoon and evening.

SHO: Trapezoid Euler
A graph of a Simple Harmonic Oscillator, such as a mass on a spring, part of a project for a class through the Santa Fe Institute (Non-Linear Dynamics, 2014). The graph shows the periodic orbit of the mass in phase space -- rather than the graph of the action of one theoretical spring, the phase space shows every possible state of the system in one chart. I started with non-linear time-series data. This system has an ordinary differential equation that does not have an analytic solution, which means it has to be solved numerically with many adaptive, iterative steps by a computer. The method I used to solve it is called the Trapezoid Euler -- I created a program in Javascript that analyzes and averages the possible derivatives at every new point.
